How to Grow on Threads from Zero Followers: A 30-Day Plan
No audience yet? A practical 30-day plan for your first Threads followers: what to post, where to reply and which numbers to watch each week.

Starting from zero on Threads is easier than on most platforms. The For You feed shows posts from accounts people don't follow, so a brand-new account can reach strangers on day one. What you need is a plan, a bit of patience and a way to see what's working. Here's a 30-day plan.
Before you start: set up your profile
- Bio: say who you help or what you post about, in one line. "Designer sharing what I learn building apps" beats a list of job titles.
- Photo: a clear face or logo that's readable at a tiny size.
- Themes: pick two or three topics you can post about for months.
Week 1: reply more than you post
With no followers, your own posts have nobody to start them off. Replies borrow an audience. Find 10 to 20 accounts in your niche that are a bit bigger than you, and leave thoughtful replies that add something: an example, a counterpoint, a question. Post once a day yourself.
Searching recent posts by keyword or topic tag is the quickest way to find conversations to join. 1Threads has a search page that does exactly this, with filters for text, images and video.
Week 2: try different formats
Post one or two a day and rotate through formats, so you have something to compare:
- A one-line opinion
- A short list ("5 things I wish I knew about…")
- A quick story with a lesson
- A question to your audience
- An image or carousel
- A how-to as a chain of posts

Week 3: double down
Look at your posts so far. Which ones did best compared with your typical post? Write more like them: same format, same kind of topic, different angle. Turn a winner into a series. Schedule the week in one sitting so you stay consistent while you keep replying.
Week 4: review
| Number | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Median views per post | Whether your typical post is improving |
| Reach rate (views ÷ followers) | How far beyond your followers you travel |
| Replies per post | Whether you're starting conversations |
| New followers per week | Whether people want more after one post |
Use the follower growth calculator to project where your current pace takes you, then set a realistic goal for the next 30 days.
What not to do
- Buy followers. They never engage, which drags down every post.
- Follow-for-follow. You get an audience that doesn't care about your topic.
- Quit after a week. The first month is for learning, not for results.
