Threads Views Dropped Suddenly? 7 Causes and What to Do

A sudden drop in Threads views usually comes down to a handful of causes. How to tell which one it is from your own numbers, and how to recover.

Last month your posts were getting thousands of views. This week, a few hundred. Before you rewrite your whole strategy, find out what actually changed. Most drops come down to one of seven causes, and your own numbers will usually tell you which.

First, check it's a real drop

Compare the median views per post for the last 14 days with the 14 days before. Not total views (they depend on how often you posted) and not the average (one viral post can double it). If the median barely moved, you don't have a drop. You had a hit, and now you're back to normal.

7 common causes

1. You're coming off a viral post

This is the most common one. A post takes off, your views spike, and everything after looks weak by comparison. Strangers who saw the viral post often don't care about your usual topics. It isn't a penalty. It's the comedown.

2. You changed what you post

New topic, new format, more promotion? The people who liked your old posts may not want the new ones, and the feed needs time to find the people who do.

3. You're posting less, or a lot more

Fewer posts means fewer chances to be seen. But a sudden jump to six posts a day can hurt too: your posts compete with each other for the same followers' attention.

4. Your timing shifted

Clocks change on different dates around the world. Europe moved its clocks back on 25 October and the US on 1 November, so for about a week the gap between you and an international audience was an hour off. Holidays, school terms and summer shift when people scroll as well.

5. A post was limited or reported

Posts that break the rules, or sit close to the line, can be removed or left out of recommendations, and repeated issues can affect the whole account. Check your account status. We cover this in detail in Threads shadowban: is it real?

6. Threads changed something

Meta adjusts ranking regularly. If accounts in your niche all report a drop at the same time, it's probably not you. Keep posting, and judge the change after a few weeks, not a few days.

7. Your audience is busy

News cycles, big sporting events and holidays pull attention elsewhere. These drops recover on their own.

How to recover

  1. Go back to the formats and topics behind your best posts from before the drop.
  2. Post at a steady pace: one or two a day, scheduled into your strong hours.
  3. Spend time in replies. They're the fastest way to be seen by new people again.
  4. Give each change two weeks before you decide whether it worked.
1Threads compares every period with the one before it, shows today against yesterday and records a daily follower snapshot, so you can see exactly when a drop started and which posts it hit. See the Overview in the demo →
